Monarch Academy Wins Grade Level Reading’s Summer Reading Competition
Today, Tuesday, October 20th, Grade Level Reading joined with Baltimore City Public Schools, the Enoch Pratt Free Library and the Baltimore City Fire Department to celebrate Monarch Academy for showing the largest increase in students participating in the Pratt Summer Reading Program. Not only did Monarch Academy increase the number of their students enrolled in Pratt Summer Reading, those students read over 800 days this summer!
To celebrate Monarch Academy’s accomplishment, Grade Level Reading and its partners hosted a “hero” party for the school’s 1st – 3rd graders, in line with the Pratt Summer Reading theme, “Every Hero Has A Story,” to present the school with $1,000 to be used for this year’s budget. Students decorated a hero mask to wear to the party and were each given a free book courtesy of the Baltimore Campaign for Grade Level Reading and the Maryland Book Bank. They also received a special visit from Chief Ford and the Baltimore City Fire Department, who spoke about what it means to be a hero and how reading helped him become who he is.
This is part of a partnership between Baltimore City Public Schools, the Enoch Pratt Free Library and the Baltimore Campaign for Grade Level Reading to encourage kids to read daily over the summer.
Congratulations to Principal Rebello, School Librarian, Jessica Lemmo, and the entire staff of Monarch Academy!
